The European Board Certificate in Nuclear Medicine proves that the candidate's knowledge and ability in Nuclear Medicine satisfy European standards. The European quality recognition is optional and does not interfere with the national requirements for specialization in Nuclear Medicine.

Candidates
To be awarded a Certificate of Fellowship of the EBNM, the candidate must meet a number of prerequisites.  He or she must: Candidates may enrol for and take the written exam (multiple choice questions) after they have completed at least 2 years of the training required for their specialist qualification by their national body. According to UEMS regulations, however, they cannot take the oral examination until their final year of training if they are being trained in a country that is a full or affiliate member of the UEMS or until a minimum of three years after receipt of their specialist qualification if their training has taken place in a non-UEMS country.

Venue
The next examination of the European Board Certificate of Nuclear Medicine will take place at the EANM headquarters, 14 Hollandstrasse, 1020 Vienna, Austria on April 29-30 and May 1, 2011.

Examination

Language
The multiple choice questions and the oral examination have to be taken in English. When candidates have difficulties with oral expression in this language, they are allowed to ask for the presence, at the oral examination, of an additional examiner familiar with the candidate's language. This examiner will be chosen by the Jury in order to assist the candidate in correct understanding.
Preparation session
A “preparation session” for all those who are considering taking the exam is organized with the aim of making candidates feel more confident about the format and contents of the exam. This session is free of charge and will take place on the morning of April 29, 2011. To attend this session it is necessary to register via the website http://uems.eanm.org, Committees, Fellowship Examination, Fellowship Preparation Session.

Applications
Applications should be sent with a curriculum vitae including detailed listing of all institutions where training has taken place, with the names of the Heads of Departments. A detailed list of the types of procedures performed in Nuclear Medicine according to the Syllabus should be attached. The latest Syllabus update can be found at the website http://uems.eanm.org, Committees, Education & Syllabus, Syllabus. Even if training has not been obtained in all procedures, candidates can be admitted by the Jury if their experience is considered sufficiently wide and includes whole-body scanning, emission tomography and therapy. The final date for all documentation to arrive in Vienna is February 1, 2011. Late applications cannot be accepted.
